TUNSTALL, a township in the parish of BISHOPWEARMOUTH, northern division of EASINGTON ward, county palatine of DURHAM, 2 miles (S. by W.) from Sunderland, containing 64 inhabitants. Lime stone abounds here, imbedded in which have been found fossils, and, a considerable quantity of iron-ore. On the Tunstall hills are some vestiges of a Druidical circle; arid a rude sepulchre, constructed with fragments Of limestone, was discovered in 1814, which contained broken urns, with some small human bones and teeth.
