TURNHAM-GREEN, a hamlet in the parish of CHISWICK, Kensington division of the hundred of OSSULSTONE, county of MIDDLESEX, 5 miles (W. by S.) from London. The population is returned with the parish.' The great western road passes through this village, which contains many handsome houses, is lighted with gas, and supplied with water from the West London water-works. On the south side is the Horticultural Society's garden (see Chiswick), but the principal entrance is here. It is within the jurisdiction of a court of requests held in Kingsgate-street, Holborn, for the recovery of debts under 40s., and is under the superintendence of the new police. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. A National school for the parish of Chiswick is situated here; one hundred and twenty-three boys are instructed, and twenty are clothed.
