TWIVERTON, a parish in the Hundred of WELLOW,
county of SOMERSET, 1 mile (W.S.'W.) from Bath,
containing 1500 inhabitants. The living is a discharg-
ed vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Bath, and diocese
of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books sit
£5. 18, l.,;and in the patronage of the Provost and
Fellows of Oriel College, Oxfords The church, dedicated
to St. Michael, has lately received an addition of
one hundred free sittings, the Incorporated Society for
the enlargement of churches and chapels having granted
£170 towards defraying the expense. There is a place
of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. The river Avon
runs through the parish, from east to west, and turns
numerous mills.
