TYDD (ST-MARY'S), a parish in the wapentake of ELLOE, parts of HOLLAND, county of LINCOLN, 6 miles (N. by W.) from Wisbeach, containing 776 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £ 17'. 6. 63., and in the patronage of the Crown. The parish is bounded on the east by the river Nene. Martha Traffbrd, in 1740, gave certain land, the produce of which is applied in teaching poor children, in a school-house lately built by subscription. Nicholas Breakspear, who was raised to the papal dignity, as Adrian IV., was rector of this parish.
