UFFINGTON, a parish in the wapentake of NESS, parts of KESTEVEN, county of LINCOLN, 2 miles (E. by N.) from Stamford, containing 466 inhabitants. The living- is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £21. 5. 2., and in the patronage, of the Earl of Lindsey. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, is a handsome structure, partly in the early and partly in the later style of, English architecture, with a fine tower and spire, and some fragments of ancient stained glass. An hospital, or priory, of Augustine canons, in honour of the Virgin.
