ULVERCROFT, a liberty (extra-parochial), in the
western division of the hundred of GOSCOTE, county of
LEICESTER, 6 miles (W. by S.) from Mountsorrel, containing
87 inhabitants. At this place, in a deep sequestered
valley of Charnwood forest, are the ruins of a
church, anciently belonging to an Augustine priory, dedicated
to the Blessed Virgin, which was founded by
Robert Blanchmains, Earl of Leicester, in the reign
of Henry II., and had, at the dissolution, a revenue of
£101. 3. 10.
