USWORTH (GREAT-and-LITTLE), a township in the parish of WASHINGTON, eastern division of CHESTER, ward, county palatine of DURHAM, 4 miles (S. E.) from Gateshead, containing, with North Biddick, 1365 inhabitants. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. The late Mrs. Penrith, in 1814, built a commodious school-house, and endowed it with £30 per annum, for the education of the poor children of the township.
