WALLINGTON-DEMESNE, a township in that part of the parish of HARTBURN which is in the northeastern division of TINDALE ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 1 miles (W. by S.) from Morpeth, containing 205 inhabitants.' In pulling down the remains of Fenwick tower, in 1775, several hundred gold nobles, of the coinage of Edward HI., were found in an open stone chest; it is supposed that they were concealed on the invasion of David, King of Scotland, in 1360, who made prisoners the two sons of Sir John Fenwick, then owner of the castle.
