WALTON-on-the-HILL, a parish in the first division of the hundred of COPTHORNE, county of SURREY, 4 miles (S. by E.) from Epsom, containing 314 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Surrey, and diocese of Winchester, rated in the king's books at £12. 6. 5., and in the patronage of Mrs. Anne Paston Gee. The church is dedicated to St. Peter: the body has been recently rebuilt at the expense of the inhabitants, and an elegant tower has been erected by the patroness; on this occasion the church received an additiori of sixty free sittings, the Incorporated Society for the enlargement of churches and chapels having granted £40 towards defraying the expense: it contains a curious ancient font, and the windows exhibit some fragments of ancient stained glass. Walton Place, the old manor-house, now occupied as a farm-house, bears evident marks of having been once strongly fortified. There are some springs in the parish, the water of which is of a mineral quality.
