WARLEY (LITTLE), a parish in the hundred of CHAFFORD, county of ESSEX, 3 miles (S. by E.) from Brentwood, containing 179 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £11. 3. 9., and in the patronage of Earl Brownlow and Miss Tyrell. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. In the reign of George III. a considerable army was encamped in the neighbourhood; and, about twenty years ago, barracks were erected here for two thousand cavalry.
