WARTON, a chapelry in the parish of KIRKHAM, hundred of AMOUNDERNESS, county palatine of LANCASTER, 3 miles (S. S. W.) from Kirkham, containing 468 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Richmond, and diocese of Chester, endowed with £400 private benefaction, £800 royal bounty, and £300 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Vicar of Kirkham. The chapel, which is dedicated to St. Paul, was consecrated in 1725. About forty children are educated in a school built by subscription, and supported by various endowments, producing an annual income of nearly £100.
