WAVENDON, a parish in the hundred of NEWPORT, county of BUCKINGHAM, 3 miles (N. E.) from Fenny - Stratford, containing 721 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Buckingham, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £26.'6. 10., and in the patronage of H.Hugh Hoare, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. The sum of £1000 was given by Mr. George Wells, who died in 1714, and his niece, Mrs. Miller, with which a charity school was built, and endowed with lands producing upwards of £40 per annum, for teaching, clothing, and apprenticing ten boys.
