WEARE, a parish in the hundred of BEMPSTONE, county of SOMERSET, 2 miles (S. W.) from Axbridge, containing 800 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Wells, and diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at £12. 1. 5., and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Bristol. The church is dedicated to St. Gregory. The river Ax WEA 4U WEA is crossed by an ancient bridge, and runs through that part of the parish termed Nether Weare; which place, among many other privileges granted by different monarchs, enjoyed that of sending members to parliament in the 34th and 35th of Edward I., and had a weekly market on Wednesday, with an annual fair.
