WELTON, a parish in the hundred of FAWSLEY, county of NORTHAMPTON, 2 miles (N. N. E.) from Daventry, containing 56 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £7, endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £ 200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to St.Andrew. The Grand Junction and Union canals meet at the south-eastern extremity of the parish, and the latter is previously crossed by Watling-street, which skirts the eastern boundary. The poor children are taught for £8 a year, paid from the receipts of the charity lands; and a Sunday school is supported with £7. 10. per aniram from the same fund.
