WELTON, a township in the parish of OVINGHAM, eastern division of TINDALE ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 9 miles (E.N.E.) from Hexham, containing 67 inhabitants. This was the seat of King Oswy, and the place where the kings Peada and Seg, bert received the rites of baptism from Finan, Bishop of Lindisfarne; the Roman wall passed in the vicinity.
