WEST-ACRE, a parish in the Lynn division of the hundred of FREEBRIDGE, county of NORFOLK, 5 miles (N. W. by N.) from Swaffham, containing, with the hamlet of Custhorpe, 362 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich, and in the patronage of P. Hamond, Esq. The church is dedicated to All Saints. A priory of Black canons, in honour of St. Mary and All Saints, was founded here, in the time of William Rufus, by Ralph de Toney, which at the dissolution had a revenue of £308. 19. 11.: the remains of this once celebrated house exhibit specimens of the early and later styles of English architecture.
