WEYHILL, a parish in the hundred of ANDOVER, Andover division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON, 3 miles (W. by N.) fromAndover, containing, with Clanville, Nutbin, and Penton-Grafton, 408 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester, rated in the king's books at £26, and in the patronage of the Provost and Fellows of Queen's College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. The village is situated on the edge of Salisbury Plain, and, though only an insignificant place, is celebrated for the great fair held in the neighbourhood, commencing on October 10th, for horses and sheep, of the latter of which it is estimated that more than one hundred and forty thousand are sold on the first day; it continues the five following days, and is visited by persons from all parts of the kingdom; cheese, hops, and leather, are also sold in considerable quantities.
