WHATLINGTON, a parish in the hundred of BATTLE, rape of HASTINGS, county of SUSSEX, 2 miles (N. by E.) from Battle, containing 285 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Lewes, and diocese of Chichester, rated in the king's books at £7. 4. 6., and in the patronage of the Duke of Dorset. Edward Theobald, in 1738, bequeathed £20, directing the interest to be applied in support of a school.
