WHEPSTEAD, a parish in the hundred of THINGOE, county of SUFFOLK, 4 miles (S. S. W.) from Bury-St. Edmunds, containing 664 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Sudbury, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £14; 4. 2., and in the patronage of the Rev. T. Image. Thomas Sparke, in 1721, bequeathed land, now producing an annual income of about £16, for which twelve poor children are educated.
