WHITCHURCH, a parish in the hundred of COTTESLOE, county of BUCKINGHAM, 4 miles (N. by W.) from Aylesbury, containing 845 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Buckingham, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £8. 17., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to St. John the Evangelist, There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. A market on Monday, and a fair on the festival of St. John the Evangelist, granted in 1245, were formerly held here.
