WHITTINGTON, a parish in the northern division of the hundred of OFFLOW, county of STAFFORD, 2 miles (E. by S.) from Lichfield, containing, with the hamlet of Tamhorn, 723 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the prebendal court of Whittington and Baswich, and in the patronage of T. Levett, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Giles. The Coventry canal passes near the village. Sarah Neal, in 1741, gave a house and land towards the education of poor children; and, in 1800, the Rev. Richard Levett bequeathed £200 for the) like purpose; the income is about £ 8, and the number taught from twenty to thirty.
