WHITTON, a township in the parish of ROTHBURY,
western division of COQUETDALE ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND,
a mile (S.) from Rothbury, containing
110 inhabitants. Whitton Tower, formerly a very
strong fortress, is still a commodious edifice, occupied
by the rector of the parish: near it is a circular observatory,
built by the late Dr. Sharp.
