WIDFORD, a parish in the hundred of BRAUGHIN, county of HERTFORD, 3 miles (E. by N.) from Ware, containing 461 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Middlesex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £12. 13. 4., and in the patronage of S. Partridge, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, has a square embattled tower, with a tall slender spire, and occupies a considerable eminence. The river Ash runs through the parish. A rent-charge of £5, from an unknown benefactor, is applied for teaching three boys.
