WINCEBY, a parish in the hundred of HILL, parts
of LINDSEY, county of LINCOLN, 4 miles (B. by S.)
from Horncastle, containing 78 inhabitants. The living
is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese
of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £6. 0. 2, endowed
with £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of
the Crown. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret.
A battle was fought here during the parliamentary war,
in which the king's troops were defeated..
