WINCHMORE-HILL, a chapelry in the parish and hundred of EDMONTON, county of MIDDLESEX, 8 miles (N.) from London. The population is returned with the parish. The chapel, dedicated to St. Paul, and consecrated in 1828, was erected at an expense of about £5000, of which sum, £3843. 6. 3. was granted by the parliamentary commissioners, the remainder having been raised by subscription: it contains six hundred and fifty sittings, of which two hundred and eighty-six are free. There are places of worship for the Society of Friends, Independents, and Wesleyan Methodists. Dr. Fothergill, an eminent physician, and a member of the Society of Friends, was buried here.
