WINTERBOURNE-STEEPLETON, a parish in the hundred of UGGSCOMBE, Dorchester division of the county of DORSET, 4 miles (W. by S.) from Dorchester, containing 161 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, united with that of Winterbourne-Abbas, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at £10. 4. 7. The church, dedicated to St. Michael in 1401, is situated in the middle of the parish; it is covered with lead, and has a tower surmounted by a stone spire, which, and that at Iwerne- Minster, are the only spires in the county.
