WITHIEL, a parish in the hundred of PYDER,
county of CORNWALL 5 miles (WbyS.) from Bodmin,
containing 339 inhabitants, the living is a rectory, in
the archdeaconry of Cornwall, and diocese of Exeter,
rated in the king's books at £ 10, and in the patronage
of Sir R. R. Vyvyan, Bart. The church is dedi
cated to St. Uyell. Brynn, in this parish, is the birthplace
of Sir-Beville Grenville, a distinguished royalist
commander in the great ciril war.
