WITHYCOMBE-RAWLEIGH, a parish in the eastern division of the hundred of BUDLEIGH, county of DEVON, 2 miles (N. E.) from Exmouth, containing, with a portion of the town of Exmouth, which extends into this parish, 1054 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to the vicarage of East Budleigh, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Exeter. The ancient church was taken down about 1745, and a new one erected half a mile from Exmouth. The navigable river Exe bounds the parish on the west. Here is an almshouse with a trifling endowment. The manor was formerly held by the tenure of finding the king two good arrows stuck in an oaten cake, whenever he should hunt in Dartmoor.
