WITHYHAM, a parish in the hundred of HARTFIELD, rape of PEVENSBY, county of SUSSEX, 7 miles (E. S. E.) from East Grinsted, containing 1393 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Lewes, and diocese of Chichester, rated in the king's books at £25. 5. 5., and in the patronage of the Duke of Dorset. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, is principally in the later style of English architecture; it was rebuilt in 1624, by Richard, Earl of Dorset, who was interred here.
