WOODFORD, a parish in the hundred of UNDERDITCH, county of WILTS, 4 miles (N. N. W.) from Salisbury, containing 363 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, with that of Wilsford united, rated in the king's books at £ 13.10., and in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Prebendary of Wilsford and Woodford in the Cathedral Church of Salisbury. The church is dedicated to All Saints. The parish is bounded on the east by the river Avon, and here was formerly a palace of the Bishops of Salisbury, but no traces of it are now visible. Charles II., after the battle of Worcester, was concealed in this neighbourhood.
