WOOLVERTON, a parish in the hundred of FROME, county of SOMERSET, 4 miles (N. by E.) from Frome, containing 184 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, consolidated with that of Road, in the archdeaconry of Wells, and diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at £7. 1. 3., and in the patronage of Dr. Starkie. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence. The river Frome separates the two parishes, that of Road being on the east, and Woolverton on the west. A considerable trade in wool was formerly carried on here.
