WOOTTON, a parish in the hundred of HORMER, county of BERKS, 3 miles (N. W. by N.) from Abingdon, containing 310 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Berks, and diocese of Salisbury, endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Earl of Abingdon. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. Wootton, formerly a chapelry in the parish of Cumner, was made a separate parish early in the last century.
