WORMINGHALL, a parish in the hundred of
ASHENDON, county of BUCKINGHAM, 4 miles (W. N. W.)
from Thame, containing 314 inhabitants; The living
is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Buckingham,
and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's
books at £6. 18. 10., endowed with £200 royal bounty,
and in the patronage of Edward Home, Esq. The
church is dedicated to St. Peter. A market, formerly
held here on Thursday, was granted to John de Rivers,
in 1304, with a fair on the festival of St. Peter and St.
Paul. An almshouse was founded, in 1675, by John
King, Esq., for four poor women and six poor single
men, who each receive a monthly allowance of eight
shillings and fourpence.
