YARDLEY, a parish in the hundred of ODSEY, county of HERTFORD, 4 miles (W. S. W.) from Buntingford, containing 617 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Huntingdon, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £12, endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of St. Paul's, London. The church, dedicated to St. Lawrence, has an embattled tower surmounted by a spire covered with lead. Chauncey, the historian of Hertfordshire, is interred here.
