BROXBURN, a village, in the parish of Uphall,
county of Linlithgow, 2 miles (E.) from Uphall; containing
about 500 inhabitants. It is pleasantly situated
on the road from Glasgow to Edinburgh, and on the
banks of the Union canal, near a rivulet of the same
name. Through the exertions of the late Earl of Buchan,
the proprietor, it very much increased in extent and population,
and a fair for cattle is held on the Friday after
the second Tuesday in September. The parochial school
is situated in the village, and there is a place of worship
in connexion with the Free Church. In the vicinity is
a station of the Edinburgh and Bathgate railway.
