CHAPELHALL, a village, in the late quoad sacra
parish of Holytown, parish of Bothwell, Middle ward
of county Lanark; containing 1431 inhabitants. This
village is chiefly inhabited by persons employed in the
collieries and mines of the immediate vicinity, and in
the extensive iron and steel works of the Monkland
Company, which have been long established in the neighbourhood.
There is a place of worship for the United
Presbyterian Synod; and schools for the instruction of
children are supported by the proprietors of the several
