CRAIGNEUK, a village, in the parish of Dalziel,
county of Lanark. Near this village is an excellent
quarry of flagstone, which affords employment to several
of the inhabitants. The stone is of a very fine grain,
and of a reddish colour; it varies from one quarter of
an inch to five inches in thickness, and is much used
for pavements, and occasionally substituted for slate in
the roofing of buildings.
