CROVIE, a village, in the parish of Gamrie, county
of Banff, 6 miles (W. by N.) from Aberdour; containing
164 inhabitants. This is a small fishing-station,
situated on the coast of the Moray Firth, about a mile
east of the village of Gardenstown. It is supposed to
have been founded in the early part of the last century.
Nine boats belonging to it are engaged in fishing for
haddock, whiting, and other small fish, which produce
as much as £1215 per annum; and a revenue of nearly
£400 per annum is obtained from cod and ling.
