GULANE, or Golyn, a village, in the parish
of DiRLETON, county of Haddington, 55 miles (\Y. by
S.) from North Berwick; containing '2/3 inhabitants.
This village, which formerly gave name to the parish, is
pleasantly situated; and the ground in the immediate
vicinity is favourable to the training of race-horses, of
which two separate establishments have been formed.
There is a school attended by fifty children, the master
of which is provided with a house and garden, rent-free,
by Mrs. Ferguson, who also allows him a salary of £5
per annum, in addition to the fees.
