KINNESSWOOD, a village, in the parish of PortMOAK,
county of Kinross, 4 miles (E.) from Kinross;
containing 4/9 inhabitants. It is situated in the western
part of the parish, and on the east side of Loch Leven:
the road from Kinross to Leslie passes through. A
parchment manufactory, in which vellum is now made,
has been carried on here for a considerable period; at
present it employs but a few hands. The population
chiefly consists of weavers. There is an annual fair in
May, latterly very ill attended. Michael Bruce, the
poet, remarkable for the beautiful effusions of his muse,
collected after his death, which was caused by consumption,
in his twenty-first year, was born in the village in
1746.
