KIRKFIELD-BANK, a village, in the parish of Lesmahagow, Upper ward of the county of Lanark, 1 mile (W. by S.) from Lanark; containing 1023 inhabitants. This place is situated in the eastern extremity of the parish, and on the west side of the river Clyde, which flows at a short distance from it, and is crossed by a bridge of three arches. The pop\ilation is chiefly employed in hand-loom weaving for the manufacturers of the district; and in the neighbourhood is a distillery. In the village is a school, to the master of which the heritors make a small annual allowance.
