KNIGHTSWOOD, a village, in the parish of New-KiLPATRiCK, county of Dumbarton, if mile (S. by E.) from New Kilpatrick; containing 178 inhabitants. It is situated in the southern part of the parish, a short distance from the river Kelvin, which here flows on the east. At Netlierton, in its neighbourhood, is a valuable freestone-quarry, the stone of which is of a cream colour, easily cut when fresh from the quarry, but hardening considerably by exposure. At one period it was largely exported to Ireland and the West Indies; and it is still wrought in vast quantities, affording employment to between sixty and seventy persons.
