LOCHFOOT, a village, in the parish of LochrutTON,
stewartry of Kirkcudbright, 5 miles (W. by S.)
from Dumfries; containing 130 inhabitants. This place
has its name from its situation at the foot of Loch Rutton.
It is of very small extent, and chiefly inhabited
by persons of the agricultural class, whose number has
lately increased owing to the system of feuing. This is
the only village in the parish.
