REWCASTLE, a hamlet, in the parish of Bedrule,
district of Jedburgh, county of Roxburgh; containing
24 inhabitants. This, though now a very small and
decayed hamlet, is supposed to be a place of great antiquity;
and it is said that the courts of justice were
once held within it, and afterwards removed to Jedburgh.
The hamlet lies in the north-east part of the parish, upon
a spot of considerable elevation.
