ROSEWELL, a village, in that part of the parish of Lasswade which formed the quoad sacra parish of RosLiN, county of Edinburgh, 4^ miles (S. W. by S.) from Dalkeith; containing 133 inhabitants. This is a roadside village, on the road from Penicuick to Newbattle; in the eastern quarter of the parish; and on the east side of the North Esk. The population is chiefly employed in the coal-mines of the neighbourhood.
