ROUCAN, a village, in the parish of Torthorwald,
county of Dumfries, 3:|: miles (E. N. E.) from Dumfries;
containing 205 inhabitants. It lies in the western part
of the parish, on the high road from Dumfries to Lochmaben.
The population is variously employed, in agriculture,
weaving, and handicraft trades. The river Lochar
flows at a short distance westward of the village.
