SKETTERAW, a village, in the parish of FetteRESSO, county of Kincardine, 6 miles (N. E. by N.) from Stonehaven; containing 183 inhabitants. This village is situated on tlie eastern coast, to the north of Stranathro, and is chiefly inhabited by persons employed in the white-fishery, which is carried on to a considerable extent, seven boats, having each a crew of five persons, being regularly engaged. Great quantities of haddocks are taken here, of which, after supplying the markets in the immediate neighbourhood, considerable numbers are cured, and sent by the Edinburgh steamers to the London market. During the season, the inhabitants are also engaged in the herring-fisheries at Peterhead and Fraserburgh. The Aberdeen railway passes near the village.
