SWANSTON, a village, in the parish of Colinton,
county of EdiNbuRGh, 5 miles (S. by W.) from Edinburgh;
containing 115 inhabitants. This village is situated
in the south-eastern part of the parish, near the
base of the Pentland hills, and in the vicinity of several
rivulets and springs. The washing of clothes for families
residing in the city, is largely carried on here.
