THORN, a village, in the parish of Abbey of the town of Paisley, Upper ward of the county of Renfrew; containing, with the population of the contiguous village of Overton, 504 inhabitants. It is situated in the western part of the parish, in a flourishing mining and manufacturing district, and, like other considerable villages in this quarter, is inhabited by colliers, weavers, and handicraftsmen. In the vicinity are freestone and other quarries.
