UPLAMUIR, a village, in the parish of Neilston, Upper ward of the county of Renfrew, 3 miles (W. S. W.) from the village of Neilston; containing 166 inhabitants. This is a small village, situated on the high road from Glasgow to Irvine, and chiefly inhabited by persons employed in the coal-mines and the quarries iu the vicinity, which are worked to a very considerable extent, and of which the produce is estimated at £25,000 per annum. The freestone at this place is of very excellent quality, and is in great request for building. Whinstone is also extensively quarried, affording a good material for the roads.
